Wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres - Cancun - Mexico
Back in September we blogged about Laura and Alex’s engagement session. If you recall, we mentioned how excited we were to travel with them to beautiful Cancun, Mexico to capture their destination wedding. This wedding was going to be extra special for us as we had celebrated with Laura’s family in Cancun once before and we knew this reunion was going to be simply amazing - and it was!
Laura and Alex planned their wedding weekend at the Secrets Playa Mujeres. This place was unreal! They and their guests really indulged in everything this resort had to offer. Being in the wedding industry, we get asked all of the time about the benefits of having a destination wedding and this place is a prime example of why a couple would choose to get married far from home. From the delicious meals to the unlimited cocktails to the pristine, white-sand beach to the infinity pool overlooking the ocean, everything was on point.
Laura and Alex began their official celebration with the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. Being from Miami, they brought a little Cuban flair to Mexico with a live band playing salsa, signature mojitos and a mandatory lechon. Family and friends danced the night away in preparation for the big day.
Wedding day preparation for Laura took place at the Secrets Playa Mujeres Spa where she and her girls were pampered. Meanwhile, Alex spent the morning hanging out with his groomsmen in his suite steps away from the beach. Each had a great time anticipating the big moment when they would see each other for the first time. These two decided to take advantage of their beautiful surroundings and do a “first look”. All the butterflies were fluttering as these two saw their soon-to-be spouses in their wedding best. Laura was breathtaking in her wedding dress and Alex was looking sharp in his tux. We had so much fun with these two walking around the property taking photos - all the while listening to the “ooohs” and “ahhhhs” from the resort guests as they wished them well.
Their ceremony took place at the resorts magnificent wedding gazebo right by the beach. Friends and family joined the two in the exchanging of vows. As they walked back up the aisle as husband and wife, guests shook their personalized maracas that had been placed on every chair. Little details like this make the biggest difference sometimes! While we finished up with family photos, the rest of the guests were escorted via golf carts to the cocktail hour and were treated to a live Mexican trio of musicians! Since we had finished all the portrait pics prior to ceremony, Laura and Alex were able to surprise their guests and join them at the cocktail hour.
The rest of the evening we were able to capture their story as it unfolded - from their perfectly choreographed first dance to the heartfelt speeches. What a night! Thank you Laura and Alex for trusting us with your precious memories… now can we please go back to Mexico and do it again!?
